Coca Cola Meath Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 7

Boardsmill 1-13 Seneschalstown 1-06

Boardsmill were deserving winners of this Round 7 game against a lethargic Seneschalstown outfit played in Bective.

After the poor weather conditions leading up to the start, the rain abated and the sun came out just at throw-in. Seneschalstown had two early attacks which broke down due to misplaced passes and it was Boardsmill who opened the scoring with a point in the fifth minute. They increased their advantage to five points by the tenth minute and were well on top at this stage. Over the next few minutes Seneschalstown started to get a little more into the game and on thirteen minutes a Róisín Commons shot came back off the crossbar and Amy Gilsenan fired wide from a good position before Stacey Grimes opened the Seneschalstown scoring with a point on fifteen minutes following good work from Gilsenan and Edel McGrane.

The industrious Shona Loughran added a fine point from play on sixteen minutes following a good passing movement involving Grimes, Gilsenan and McGrane. Seneschalstown were back in the game but were rocked on eighteen minutes when Boardsmill struck for their goal. Grimes replied with a point after working a short free with McGrane in the twenty first minute but Boardsmill tagged on four points on the run in to half time. Seneschalstown were given a chance to reduce the deficit on the stroke of half time when they were awarded a penalty but unfortunately Louise Coyle’s placed effort went the wrong side of the post and Boardsmill lead 1-09 to 0-03 at the break.

Boardsmill were out of the blocks quickly after the break but kicked a few wides and were also unlucky on thirty six minutes when the ball came crashing back of the crossbar and was cleared by the Seneschalstown defence. Amy Gilsenan opened the scoring in the second half in the thirty seventh minutes from play before Stacey Grimes hit the crossbar on thirty nine minutes from a free and the rebound was driven wide. Good defending from Mena Sheridan on forty two minutes led to a point from Kiah Geraghty but this was cancelled out by Boardsmill a minute later. Sheridan was now pushing further forward from her full back role and following a fine run saw her long range effort nestle in the corner of the net to give the Seneschalstown girls hope with the score now 1-10 to 1-05 with a quarter of an hour still remaining. Boardsmill increased their lead on forty seven minutes and Grimes replied on fifty one minutes from a free. Boardsmill added further points in the fifty third and sixtieth minutes while Seneschalstown were struggling in front of goal with several opportunities wasted as Boardsmill ran out winners on a 1-13 to 1-06 score line.

As results panned out Seneschalstown will now play Oldcastle in the semi-final on Sun Sept 6th. Time and Venue to be confirmed.

A minutes silence was observed prior to throw-in for the late Paschal Sheridan R.I.P., a long serving member of the Seneschalstown club whose daughters played with Seneschalstown LGFC.
