Feis Cup Round 7
Seneschalstown 4-8 Ballinabrackey 1-10
Seneschalstown wrapped up their Feis Cup campaign with a seven point victory over 2020 Intermediate Football Champions Ballinabrackey in Fr. Tully Park on Wednesday evening.
In the opening quarter, it was the newly-promoted side who had the better of the exchanges and led by five points after 15 minutes, 1-04 to 0-02 with Seneschalstown’s points both coming from play via Brian Sheridan and Eoin Finnegan. The Bracks’ goal was scored by former county man Damien Carroll. Seneschalstown improved drastically thereafter and managed to find the net themselves twice in a short space of time, with Brian Sheridan on the end of both moves. This helped Seneschalstown erase the deficit with the game level as both sides turned around for the second half.
The home side were dealt a blow early in the second half when reduced to 14 men which on second viewing looked harsh. However this only spurred Seneschalstown on as they dominated large spells of the second period, points from Sheridan, Bryan Clarke (all frees) and a Johnny Gilsenan effort helped open up a three point gap.
The crucial scores which killed the game off came during the final quarter with Sean Carey and Bryan Clarke both finding the Ballinabrackey net to seal the points for the home side. The win ensured Seneschalstown finished in a respectable third place in the group but not enough to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
