Meath U-14 Summer League Division 2 Summer League Round 2

Wolfe Tones 4-18 Seneschalstown 3-10

Seneschalstown lined out with a below strength team on paper in this second round game away to Wolfe Tones who were the recent run away winners of the Division 3 Spring League, with star names like, Josh Ryan, Joseph Moore, Simon Rooney, Woodley Nicholson, Sean Commons, Cillian Lawlor, John Cahalane, Ben Coffey, Seanie Dalton all missing due to injury or Holidays and with Cathal Hickey unable to play outfield due to a foot injury then this game was always going to be a big ask for those available.

But these Seneschalstown players have one thing in abundance and that’s, character, lining out with fourteen players and one of these included U-12 star Eoin Mullen, from the word go they took the game to Wolfe Tones and within five minutes Luke Holohan had bagged himself 1-02, but needless to say the Tones came back into the game and playing with a slight breeze got back on level terms by the fifteenth minute but with strong play from Cathal Hickey in goals Liam Maguire, Kit Waddington, Jamie Kirwan in Defence and good intelligent running from Will Finnegan Alan Carey and Aaron Traynor in forward we kept in touch with further points from Ross Mullen, Luke Holohan and Eoin Mullen the half time score read Wolfe Tones 1-09 Seneschalstown 1-05

In the second half the Tones fresher legs began to tell and with everyone working hard for every ball we visibly tired for a ten minute spell where the Tones scored heavily, scoring 2-04 without reply, but these lads showed their metal and with two goals, one from Eoin Mullen and one from Ross Mullen we rallied and with further points from Ross Mullen and Luke Holohan really put the Tones under pressure, with Tiernan Keogh, Daire Walsh and Padraig Finnegan defending strongly and David Masterson in forwards working hard but unfortunately we just ran out of legs and time, but still went on to record 3-10 and put in a really strong performance in every sector of the pitch which is no more than we could ask from these lads.

Seneschalstown: Cathal Hickey, Tiernan Keogh, Liam Maguire, Daire Walsh, Jamie Kirwan, (0-01), Kit Waddington, Padraig Finegan, Ross Mullen, (1-04), Alan Carey, Luke Holohan, (1-04), Will Finegan, Eoin Mullen, (1-01), David Masterson, Aaron Traynor.
