Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-02 Seneschalstown 7-05
Seneschalstown completed their program of group games with victory over Ashbourne under lights on Thursday last.
The Furze girls had the ideal start when Kelly Smith goaled in the second minute. The game was very even for the next fifteen minutes with both teams giving their all with some great defending on both sides where the only score was an Ashbourne point on six minutes. Aoibhe Monaghan broke the scoring lull for the Furze girls with a goal on seventeen minutes but Ashbourne replied a minute later with a goal of their own. However on the run in to half time the furze girls scored goals.
In the twenty second minute, a good combination of passes on the left between Aoife Mulvany and Aoibhe Monaghan resulted in Sinead McLarney fielding a crossfield pass from Monaghan before drilling the ball into the roof of the net. Then two minutes later the ref awarded a penalty for a foul on Monaghan. Kelly Smith took the kick and her initial effort came back off the post but she put the rebound home to leave the score at 4-00 to 1-01 at the break.
The first ten minutes of the second half proved very fruitful for the winners scoring 2-03 without reply. Caradh Monaghan opened the second half scoring with a goal on four minutes which was soon followed up by well worked point from play from Sorcha Gough in the fifth minute. Gough then added a point from a long range free on six minutes and her long range point effort from play two minutes later dropped directly into the net. Lauren Donnelly closed this passage of scoring with a point from play in the ninth minute.
Ashbourne got the next score on eleven minutes with a point from a free. Further points from Aoibhe Monaghan and Gough on fourteen and nineteen minutes was followed up in the twenty second minute with Caradh Monaghans second goal of the half to conclude the scoring in a very entertaining game where both teams deserve great credit for their efforts.
