Meath B League Division 1 Round 9

St. Peters Dunboyne 5-12 Seneschalstown 3-11

Seneschalstown fell to defeat and ultimately relegation after a disappointing second half performance against St. Peters Dunboyne on Monday evening.

The visitors got off to an excellent start when finding the net with the first attack of the game but Seneschalstown responded excellently with 5 points on the trot. Shane Clarke opened with a free, Sean Noonan followed up with an effort from play after Stephen Finnegan won a kickout. Johnny Gilsenan then kicked his first point of the evening as did Brendan Lynch and James Conlon in consecutive attacks. Dunboyne kicked their first point. Sean Noonan then kicked a fine point in the 16th minute showing great strength to shrug off numerous black and amber challenges before splitting the posts. The visitors kicked 5 of the last 6 first half points with the home sides only response coming from a Daire Geraghty free after Brendan Lynch was fouled. Seneschalstown trailed 1-6 to 0-7 at half time.

In the 32nd minute Lynch pointed to leave the minimum between the sides. Johnny Gilsenan kept the home sides challenge going but Dunboyne answered likewise immediately. Gilsenan and Noonan kicked points in the 40th and 44th minutes to leave 1 in it again but the visitors then hit a purple patch registering 4-2 in a 10 minute spell all but ending the game as a contest. However, Seneschalstown rallied hitting three goals of their own, all of which came from Johnny Gilsenan. The first goal came after he fielded a Stephen Finnegan centre. His second arrived after Seneschalstown won a close range free which was taken quickly to Gilsenan, while the third was an excellent finish low to the bottom left hand corner. It was too little too late from a Seneschalstown point of view as they could not get any closer and they were relegated to Division 2.

Best for Seneschalstown were Johnny Gilsenan, Sean Noonan and Niall McCabe, who produced a number of brilliant blocks over the hour.
