Seneschalstown’s Under 18 ladies were in action on Saturday 8th Nov in the Division 1 semi-final against Simonstown.
Played in Simonstown GFC on a very wet afternoon the Seneschalstown girls came up against an impressive Simonstown squad. From the start of this game Simonstown dictated the pace and trend for what was to follow. Physically they were bigger and stronger than Seneschalstown and this helped them adapt to them conditions much more quickly. But for what the Seneschalstown girls lacked in physicality they more than made up for in heart and commitment to their cause. They harried and chased down the Simonstown attackers who came raiding in on goal with wave after wave of attack but by half time Simonstown had a healthy lead of 1-06 to Seneschalstown’s 0-01.
Seneschalstown needed a good start to the second half to give themselves a chance in this encounter, but the town side were having none of it, and in the following ten minutes Simonstown added a further four goals to their tally and so realistically this game was all but over. But the spirit in this Seneschalstown team is very strong and their desire to give of their all filled their supporters with great pride and was so rewarded with scoring 3-01 in the closing twenty minutes.
Players to stand out on the day were Orla Mc Mahon, Róìsín Commons, Stacey Grimes, Natasha Mullen, Kiah Geraghty and the ever faithful Aisling Taaffe.
Simonstown were clearly the better team on the day and full credit must go to them, but it takes nothing away from this fantastic bunch of players from the rural club in the heart of Meath. They have given their club all so much to be proud of over the past number of months and indeed the past number of years. They play with a great honesty in their game and looking to the future they will have many great days ahead of them for sure.
