Meath B League Division 5 Round 5

Seneschalstown 2-08 Clonard 2-14

While their form thus far in the Championship has been very impressive Seneschalstown have been struggling to replicate this in the League and their struggles continued on Tuesday evening when they fell to a six point defeat at home to Clonard.

Clonard were quickly into their groove in this game when going three points to no score ahead with fifteen minutes on the clock before early substitute Eddie Meade registered Seneschalstown’s first score when pointing on nineteen minutes. Clonard responded to this score with a goal and a point to forge into a six point lead before the home side closed out the half on the front foot when pointing twice through David Gordon and centre back Adam Gargan who pointed following a driving forward run.

When the game resumed following the half time break they repeated the dose from the start of the first half when clipping over a hat trick of points. Things were looking bleak at this stage of the game for Seneschalstown but suddenly they burst into life with two goals and two points in five minutes from Eoin Finnegan and Meade.

Firstly Finnegan pointed after being placed for his opportunity by Paul McDonnell before he clinically converted a goal chance a minute later. Finnegan then tapped over a free, a score then followed by an Eddie Meade goal after Dylan Doyle had sliced through the Clonard defence with a piercing run. All of a sudden, out of nowhere Seneschalstown found themselves in front and with all of the momentum.

Clonard’s riposte to this scoring burst was impressive as they pointed twice to edge crack in front by the minimum but when Mark Gleeson equalised from play the game appeared to be in the balance. Clonard though struck for home with a goal and two points between the forty ninth and fifty first minutes and while Meade reduced the margin between the sides with a point the visitors promptly hit a brace of minors to move six ahead.

Ryan O’Dowd did manage to pick off a point but Clonard managed to cancel this one out before Cormac Reilly blew the full time whistle.
