The Junior A footballers of Seneschalstown picked up their fifth victory from six games in the B League Division 2 on Tuesday evening to maintain their position at the head of the table following a comfortable victory over mid-table Trim. Having had a one point lead at the interval they pushed on during the second half as they played some excellent attacking football and held the visitors to a solitary point in the latter thirty minutes.

The Junior A footballers of Seneschalstown picked up their fifth victory from six games in the B League Division 2 on Tuesday evening to maintain their position at the head of the table following a comfortable victory over mid-table Trim. Having had a one point lead at the interval they pushed on during the second half as they played some excellent attacking football and held the visitors to a solitary point in the latter thirty minutes.
The game pitted sides from the Junior A and Junior B Championships against each other and with home advantage it was the Junior A side which proved too strong as backboned by experienced campaigners such as Joe Cowley, Paul Carey and Shane Clarke they had too much guile for the Trim side. With a fine mixture of youth and experience in the team they pulled away in the second half as they reeled off a series of fine points although they may be concerned at not raising any green flags over the hour.
It took less than a minute for Seneschalstown to get on the scoreboard when corner forward James Conlon fisted over. Eddie Meade doubled the advantage before on three minute Adam Gleeson sent over his first of the evening. Full forward Eddie Meade then picked off his second to push his side four clear but Trim replied with three points in a row. James Conlon picked off a well taken effort from play but in response to this the away side hit the front when burying a clinically taken goal.
Eddie Meade was impressing up front and he bisected the posts to leave one between the teams but not for long as four minutes later Paul McDonnell got on the end of a clever Adam Gleeson knock down to point and draw them level. Meade continued to cause trouble for the Trim defenders and he was shoved in the back as he shot for goal but the chance of a score wasn’t lost as Shane Clarke tapped over the resultant free. Trim did pull back level when pointing a free but on the stroke of half time the lively James Conlon pointed once more to edge Seneschalstown back into a one point lead, 0-09 to 1-05.
It didn’t take Conlon long to open the scoring in the second half as with just sixteen seconds on the clock he pointed from out on the left. Wing forward Adam Gleeson then stormed into the match with two points in a minute, both fine efforts. Stephen Finnegan pinged a forty-five and then Shane Clarke sent over a free to push Seneschalstown into a six point lead but on the three quarter stage Trim popped over their solitary second half point.
Eddie Meade made it six between the teams again when he got on the end of a move that was all about Colin Walsh who got the ball deep in his own defence, carried it forward at pace, exchanged a one-two with sub Ciaran Macken and then offloaded to Meade who nearly burst the ball such was the power of his booming point. Stephen Finnegan sent over his second forty-five before with ten minutes remaining Ciaran Macken rose highest on the edge of the square to fist over a Shane Clarke free which dropped short for what turned out to be the last score of the game.
Best for Seneschalstown were James Conlon, Eddie Meade and Ronan Conneely.
