Ballinlough 0 – 6
Seneschalstown overcame Ballinlough in a very competitive contest on Friday night last. James Meade opened the scoring for Seneschalstown in the 4th minute with a very well taken long range point before Ballinlough responded with a point of their own but this would prove to be their only score of the first half as the Seneschalstown lads playing with the breeze took over control in every position especially in mid-field with Niall Lyons and Daniel Mc Loughlin dominating their opponents with further points from James Meade Niall Lyons, Hugh Maguire Ross Howard and Brendan Lynch, this control was particularly dominant in the half back line of Darren Johnson Niall Mc Cabe and Adam Carey continuously thwarting every Ballinlough attack and setting up scoring opportunities for the forward line. Seneschalstown finished the first half with a 0 – 10 to 0 – 1 lead.
Needless to say Ballinlough started the second half in determined fashion and within 10 mins had tagged on 5 points without reply and Seneschalstown were struggling but then they began to get a foothold around the midfield, half forward and half back line’s and with Eoin Noonan switching from full forward to mid-field his height and strength made a telling difference and at this point James Meade popped up again to score a vital goal. The Seneschalstown full back line of John Smith and Mark Fox lead from the front throughout this game but especially in the second half when stopping a couple of very dangerous Ballinlough attacks. Seneschalstown brought in Edward Meads for Brendan Lynch who had worked tirelessly throughout and Ciaran Mc Cabe for Hugh Maguire as well as Ronan Connelly for the tenacious Darren Johnson.
The game was essentially wrapped up when Adam Mc Cabe who continuously pushed forward from the half back line throughout the game took a shot from 30mts out that seemed certain to be a point when it dropped and hit the cross bar and the first made to react was Eoin Noonan and he blasted the ball to the net.
This win was very well deserved and while played on a very heavy pitch Seneschalstown proved their superior fitness levels and the work rate of players like Ross Howard, James Meade, Eoin Noonan, Niall mc Cabe, Niall Lyons and John Smith proved the difference in the end but the overall team work and determination throughout the team was the difference in the end.
