Seneschalstown recorded a deserved victory over a gallant Rathkenny outfit in this U-14 Division 2 Round 5 match played in Rathkenny.
Rathkenny were quick out of the blocks and raced into a three point lead inside the first ten minutes as the Furze girls were struggling to get the ball out of their half. Lauren Donnelly opened the winners account with a goal from play and this was followed up by a Sinead McLarney point. Rathkenny equalised soon afterwards but another point from Donnelly put the Furze girls back in front and with a goal from McLarney and two points from Mallaidh Breen which left Seneschalstown in front by 2-04 to 0-04 at the break.
The early exchanges of the second half were tight with scoring at a premium with Breen and Donnelly adding points. As the second half wore on the girls began to find more space to move the ball and kicked on in the last quarter to add 2-05, the goals coming from Caradh Monaghan and Sorcha Gough, and points from McLarney, Breen, Donnelly and two from Gough. The defence and midfield, after a shaky start, knuckled down to the task in hand and provided the forwards with a good possession which was capitalised on.
