Meath Ladies Division 1 League Round 6

Seneschalstown 4-13 Royal Gaels 0-04

Having taken to the field in their Round 5 game just over twenty-four hours earlier, Seneschalstown’s Senior Ladies returned to Fr. Tully Park on Monday evening to take on Royal Gaels in their Round 6 encounter. With Royal Gaels third from bottom and Seneschalstown bottom going into this match it was one game that both sides would have been targeting for victory in their efforts to beat the drop.

To this end it will be Seneschalstown who were much the happier by the full time whistle as they picked up their second brace of points in quick succession to boost their survival aspirations following an impressive team display. Boosted by the return of the Mullen sisters, Lisa and Natasha who had missed Sundays game they led from pillar to post against the Dunshaughlin Ladies.

Having played the day before Seneschalstown would have been looking to make a quick start in case they became heavy legged in the second half and thus they will have been delighted with their lightning quick beginning to the match as they stole a march on Royal Gaels immediately as the girls in blue surged into a 2-02 to 0-00 lead with just six minutes elapsed. The classy Amy Gilsenan pointed inside the opening minute before midfielder and Meath minor Natasha Mullen goaled on five minutes. Full forward Louise Coyle who seems to get better year on year then showed how devastating she can be in front of the posts when grabbing a rapid-fire goal and a point in the seventh minute.

Royal Gaels were rocked by this great start from the hosts but they looked to gain a foothold on proceedings when lofting over two points. Seneschalstown were in no humour to allow them settle into the match though and on ten minutes Louise Coyle pointed again before two minutes later burying the ball into the back of the net to grab her sides third goal inside the first twelve minutes. Stacey Grimes and Coyle once more pushed the Seneschalstown lead out to 3-04 to 0-02 before with the opening quarter almost up Royal Gaels picked off their third point.

Scores proved much harder to come by in the second quarter with none arriving until the twenty eighth minute but in those closing couple of minutes both sides managed to come up with a point apiece, Mena Sheridan with the Seneschalstown effort.

DKIT and Meath star Stacey Grimes opened the Seneschalstown account for the second half when she chipped over a free, a score soon added to by an Amy Gilsenan point from play. Natasha Mullen added to her earlier goal with a point on forty-three minutes to stretch out the Seneschalstown lead. Kiah Geraghty and Nina Murphy sent over in quick succession before Amy Gilsenan netted the fourth Seneschalstown goal. The match was effectively now over but there was still enough time for Nina Murphy and Kiah Geraghty to add their second points of the match.

Best for Seneschalstown were the evergreen Louise Coyle, Kiah Geraghty and Natasha Mullen.
