Dunboyne 6-12 Seneschalstown 1-14
Despite a gallant effort, Seneschalstown Junior C ladies lost out to Dunboyne in this Junior C decider in Pairc Tailtean.
Led on by joint captains Cathy Ann Cowley and Kelly Smith, the Devonish Sponsored outfit Defended the hospital end in the first half. The early exchanges were tight with both sides showing some nervy moments and it took until the sixth minutes before Dunboyne opened the scoring from a free. Anna Wogan opened the Furze girls account on eight minutes and Shirley Quinn put them in front in the twelveth minutes. Two minutes later Wogan tagged on another point but the Dunboyne ladies responded with a point of their own on the quarter hour mark. On sixteen minutes midfielder Laura Burke found herself in the Dunboyne square and she dispatched the ball to the corner of the Dunboyne net to give the Furze girls a 4 point lead.
Shortly afterwards play was held up while full back Cowley was treated for an injury following a heavy challenge. With 8 minutes remaing in the half Dunboyne struck for their first goal and equalised alsmost immediately with another point. At this stage Cowley had to depart the fray as a result of the earleir challenge to be replaced by Debbie Mangan. Indeed it wasn’t a great evening for Captains as the Dunboyne captain had to leave the field with an ankle injury earler in the game. On the run into the break Dunboyne tagged on a further 2-3 with the only response another fine Quinn point from play to leave the half time score at 3-6 to 1-4.
The Seneschalstown girls started the second half in fine form and tagged on 5 points in the opening seven minutes from Emer Smith (3) and Kelly Smith and Wogan to a single response from the Dunboyne girls. However the Dunboyne teams ability to score goals was to prove crucial and three majors from the tenth to the twentieth minutes were to prove crucial. The furze girls kept plugging away in this period and points from Mallaidh Breen, Adelle Carolan Flynn and Emer Smith (2) kept the scoreboard ticking over. The furze girls kept going until the end and scored two points in he final ten miutes from Emer Smith to leave the final score at 6-12 to 1-14. While the final score was dissappointing the Seneschalstown girls can be proud of their efforts on the day and through the whole season.
Many thanks to the players and management for their efforts during the season. The girls have a league final to look forward too which is planned at this stage for Septh 9th. Time and venue to be confirmed.
