JM Food Services Football League Division 2 Round 11
Seneschalstown 1-07 Meath Hill 0-18
Seneschalstown suffered defeat in the final round of regular season league matches, going down away to an impressive Meath Hill by eight points on Saturday evening.
Things started brightly for Seneschalstown with David Fox finding the net inside four minutes after he was quickest to a loose ball in the large square. Alan Mulvany followed this up with a point from a free but the home side, who had registered the opening point of the hour, kicked two on the bounce as the 10th minute went by.
Alan Mulvany was on target from play from 35 metres out but the home side were growing into the game as the half went on and had it down to the minimum as the first quarter ended
Seneschalstown restored their two point advantage when Fox claimed a mark in the top right corner and he excellently directed it between the posts from a difficult angle for a right footer. However, Meath Hill reeled off four points in a row to bring a three point lead into the dressing room at half-time, 0-09 to 1-03.
That pattern at the end of the first half continued into the second as Meath Hill did the exact same thing, notching up another four points on the trot which meant it was eight altogether either side of the interval.
Alan Mulvany broke this sequence when he chipped over after being set up by Mark Fox. He was on target from a free three minutes later after James Conlon was fouled at the angle of the 20 metre line and the corner of the D’.
However, this didn’t spark anything in Seneschalstown and Meath Hill continued to chip away at the scoreboard, adding three further white flags to their tally. Dylan Keating replied for Seneschalstown with a well taken point after he turned sharply after winning the ball but the home side were not to be stopped and brought their tally to 0-18 for the evening with two more for themselves. A late Mulvany free was immaterial as Seneschalstown now must dust themselves down for a League semi-final shootout for promotion against Trim in the next two weeks.
