Seneschalstown 4-14 Rathkenny 3-4.

Seneschalstown emerged from Rathkenny with a thirteen point victory over their hosts on Saturday afternoon.

Showing a number of changes from the team that lost out to St. Colmcilles in midweek, it took five minutes for the first score to arrive. It came from Dylan Keating – who was operating at full forward after linking up with Joseph Moore. Rathkenny equalised two minutes later but the visitors outscored them by 2-8 to 1-00 for the remainder of the half as they assumed control.

Cillian Gormley pointed on eight minutes after Ross Mullen hit the bar. The first goal of the game arrived on nine minutes when Moore found the bottom corner after good work from Keating and Alan Mulvany. Mulvany then opened his account with an excellent point from the left hand side. Gormley then put over his second point of the game from play. Rathkenny did find the net but Sean Carey then pointed after collecting a poor clearance. On eighteen minutes Mulvany pointed a free via the post. Then, James Commons scored an excellent goal driving the ball low and hard into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately Commons shifted a heavy blow and played no further part in the game. Keating then notched a brace of points in the twenty fifth minute. Mulvany brought the first half scoring to a close when tapping over a free.

Half Time: Seneschalstown 2-09 Rathkenny 1-01.

Forty two seconds had elapsed in the second half when Mulvany pointed from thirty five metres. In the next attack, wing back Cathal Hickey netted after a good overlap was created. The hosts did hit a point but Gormley and Sean Commons raised a white flag each.

Rathkenny did score another point but Mulvany pointed either side of another Moore goal. The hosts finished the scoring, which included a goal after Brian Boyd saved a penalty.

All in all it was a good win and badly needed two points after the midweek defeat. Next up is Walterstown away on Wednesday.
