Meath Ladies U-15 Division 2 League Round 3

Simonstown 4-08 Seneschalstown 1-05

On a very windy Sunday evening the Furze girls headed across Navan to take on a strong Simonstown team that are unbeaten in the U-15 Autumn league. A daunting prospect and still missing a few crucial players it was a tough assignment with Simonstown powering away in the second half with a couple of great goals to kill the game as a contest.

Seneschalstown aided by the wind in the first half opened the scoring with a good point from Aoife Mulvaney. She added another after 10 minutes but possession was very limited and the Furze defence and midfield struggling to maintain possession in the strong wind. A fortuitous penalty for Simonstown brought them right back into the game before Orla Finnegan popped over a good point. Another goal and point for Simonstown before half time made sure they had the momentum and the wind advantage for the second half while they led by 2-01 to 0-03.

Simonstown began the second half where they left off with 2 unanswered points before Aoife Lenihan scored a fine point after 40 minutes. Simonstown turned on the afterburners and two goals and 3 points to kill off the game. The girls never stopped trying and with a switch between midfielder Caragh Monaghan with Lauren Donnelly proving a real thorn in the Simonstown defence. A great run from attacking half back Zoe Kirwan linking up with Sinead McLarney rifling to the net eased the gap somewhat but again Simonstown knocked over 3 more points to close out the game. Aoife Lenihan scored a free but the game was well and truly up beforehand with an injury to Lauren Donnelly compounding our evening.

We wish Lauren a speedy recovery and look forward to our next challenge of Summerhill next week whom we have relinquished home advantage. There are still plenty of games in this group with valuable points still up for grabs.
