Seneschalstown got themselves back to winning ways in the Paddy O’Brien Cup on Thursday night after a comfortable win over Gaeil Colmcille. The hosts put in a dominant performance right from minute one as soon Cian Hosie raised the first white flag inside 20 seconds. Seneschalstown were ahead throughout, except for a brief period early on where the Kells men hit 1-01 to pull themselves level.

Seneschalstown got themselves back to winning ways in the Paddy O’Brien Cup on Thursday night after a comfortable win over Gaeil Colmcille. The hosts put in a dominant performance right from minute one as soon Cian Hosie raised the first white flag inside 20 seconds. Seneschalstown were ahead throughout, except for a brief period early on where the Kells men hit 1-01 to pull themselves level.
Before the first minute of the game had elapsed, Jamie Norris had his first point of the evening and by the fourth minute the home side were going at a rate of a point a minute thanks to two Cian Commons scores. The second one a fine score where he won a kickout, carried the ball into space and cut inside onto his right boot and curling over. The visitors then struck for their aforementioned 1-01 to draw level.
Jamie Norris, who was having a productive outing restored his teams advantage with a fine point from way out on the right, and then added Seneschalstown’s first goal to cancel out Kells’ major at the other end from just four minutes prior. Cian Commons tagged on another point before he put his name to a goal with a fine finish low to the net after a powerful run. By this stage Ted McDonnell’s side were eight points to the good.
The second quarter was Kells’ best period of the game where they managed three points in a row in a quick successions. The next four points were shared evenly, Liam Dillon and Cian Hosie with the Seneschalstown points. In injury time of the first half, Cian Hosie closed out the half with a quickfire goal and a point, the goal a fine effort in off the underside of the bar.
The second half display from the hosts was emphatic, with the hosts kicking all six points in the third quarter. The two Cian’s, Commons and Hosie were the main protagonists on the scoring front with all bar one of the points. Commons scored the first two of the half (one a free) and then Hosie tapped over two close range frees. Aran Carey, who had moved to full forward by this point put over the final point in this spell to increase the home side’s advantage.
Gaeil Colmcille answered with two points of their own on the resumption, and Liam Dillon, Carey and Hosie added the gloss to the scoreline. The last score of the game went the way of Kells who worked the ball up the pitch before a fine low finish to the net.
Seneschalstown will be happy with their performance, particularly with the 18 points as they move onto Simonstown Gaels in their last match very much in position for a semi-final spot.
