Meath Ladies U-16 Division 2 League

Summerhill 5-13 Seneschalstown 1-6

At the 4th attempt of asking, Seneschalstown U-16 Girls got their campaign underway with a defeat in sunny Summerhill on Sunday evening.

After 5 minutes you would not think the game would end up as it did as the Furze girls led by 1-01 to 0-00. Both teams had early point chances and it was Kelly Smith who opened the scoring with a point from play in the fourth minute and 2 minutes later the ball was nestling in the Summerhill net as good approach play from Aoife Lenehan and Katie Geraghty set up Orla Finnegan who dispatched the ball low to the net.

Summerhill began to get a foothold in the game with some great team moves but were wayward in front of goal but eventually levelled up matters on 20 minutes. In the 22nd minute the Hill scored their first goal and added a further 1-03 before the break. The only reply from the Furze girls was an Aoife Lenehan point from play to leave the HT score at 2-07 – 1-02.

The second half started with an early score for Seneschalstown with a good point from Chrystal Delamere in the 33rd minutes and this was followed in the 36th minute with a pointed free from Ava Jane Ryan but the ‘hill were keeping the scoreboard going on a consistent basis although they had to work a lot harder for their scores. Although under constant pressure the Furze girls put some good moves together themselves in the second half but didn’t get the reward on the scoreboard. In the 55th minute Delamere got her second point from play after good work from Aoife Mulvany and Lauren McCarthy and Mulvany completed the scoring for the Seneschalstown girls with a point from play.

This was the team’s first outing of the season and it showed as they looked ring rusty and although the score line might not suggest it the team’s performance in the second half was much improved.

Next up is Walterstown on Tuesday at 5pm in Fr Tully Park.

Scorers: Orla Finnegan 1-00, Chrystal Delamere 0-02, Aoife Lenehan, Ava Jane Ryan, Kelly Smith, Aoife Mulvany 0-1 each.
