‘Hill Too Big For Seneschalstown

LGFA Kepak Junior C Championship Group B Round 1

Seneschalstown 1-07 Summerhill 1-11

A strong final quarter from Summerhill left Seneschalstown empty handed after this opening round encounter of the Kepak Junior C Championship in a sunny Fr. Tully Park on Sunday evening.

Seneschalstown opened the scoring when Lucy Lynch converted a free from the middle of the ‘D’.  Summerhill levelled and then went ahead for the first time in the 7th minute.   The nip and tuck nature of the first half continued with Ava Jane Ryan registering a brace of frees after 12 and 17 minutes.

Both sides had further chances to build on their respective tallies but it was only the visitors who were able to capitalise as they kicked another two points to lead 0-04 to 0-03 at the break.

Summerhill came out of the blocks quickest at the start of the second half and notched up the first two scores after the restart inside the two minutes.   Half-time substitute Anna Donnelly settled Seneschalstown with a 25 metre free which Summerhill cancelled out instantly with a score of their own at the other end.

Seneschalstown reduced the gap to two points when Eve Wardick turned and pointed from the corner of the ‘D after Ava Jane Ryan set her up.   They followed this up with a major boost for themselves.

Wardick this time turned provider for Moya Waters, now operating in midfield made little of the number three on her back by calmly slotting the ball beyond the Summerhill keeper to put Seneschalstown one to the good after 38 minutes.   Seneschalstown could have built on this lead but some profligacy in front of goal prevented them from doing this and Summerhill struck a decisive blow in the 46th minute when plundering a goal of their own at the other end.

They also kicked the next three points to give them a five point cushion entering the final ten minutes before Katie Geraghty broke the momentum with a fisted score at the railway end of the ground.   Another quick Summerhill point followed before both teams went scoreless for ten minutes as the game ticked into injury time.   The last score of the hour went to Moya Waters but this proved to be little more than consolation as Summerhill emerged deserving four point winners.
