Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 Round 3
Seneschalstown 2-07 Navan O’Mahony’s 6-08
Seneschalstown went down to Navan O’Mahony’s in the third round of the Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 on Sunday morning in Seneschalstown. With numbers tight because of absentees and injuries which included a further two in the warm-up, it meant Seneschalstown could only line out with 15 players.
The Hoops opened the scoring with a point from play before Seneschalstown were dealt a further numerical blow when both Peter Tierney and Mark Fox were forced off injured as a result of a nasty clash of heads.
Despite this, Seneschalstown hit the front when Éamon Finnegan rattled the back of the net when he did a lot of the spade work himself to create a goal chance from next to nothing. However, O’Mahony’s took control and by half time lead by 2-04 to 1-00.
In the second-half, Seneschalstown improved considerably despite playing into the wind. Neil Darby, Jack McDonnell (2) and Kyle Hosie all found the target from play while Éamon Finnegan was also accurate from two placed balls. With two minutes to go, the home side put together a good move to find the net for a second time, this time finished neatly by Jack McDonnell.
Unfortunately from a Seneschalstown point of view, O’Mahony’s added 4-04 to their tally in the second half and eventually ran out 13 point winners.
