U-17 Division 2A League Round 1

Seneschalstown 3-14 St. Oliver’s 2-14

Seneschalstown opened their Under 17 Division 2 account with a well-deserved victory over St. Oliver’s under lights in Ballinlough on a 3-14 to 2-14 score line. St. Oliver’s started on fire and were seven points up after ten minutes and looked to be cruising as they split open the Seneschalstown defence on numerous occasions.

However the Seneschalstown lads knuckled down and as team captain Dylan Doyle and David Fox at centerfield started to give the forwards a better supply of ball. Points from Eoin Finnegan Mark Horrigan and Dylan Keating kept the scoreboard ticking over. On twenty three minutes Seneschalstown were given a lifeline as Cathal Finnegan volleyed to the net leaving the half time score 1-09 to 1-07 in favour of St Oliver’s.

Robert Wogan pointed after one minute in the second half and Cathal Finnegan scored his second goal after three minutes to leave Seneschalstown leading by two points. It was by now all Seneschalstown as they took the game by the scruff of the neck. In defence Brian Maguire, substitute Daire Finnegan and Louis Healy snuffed out numerous St. Oliver’s attacks while up front Eoin Finnegan led the charge and all the Seneschalstown forwards were flying,

Cathal Finnegan got three points on the trot and scored his third goal halfway through the second half. Mark Horrigan got his second point as did Dylan Keating and Seneschalstown now led by six pts with time running out. St. Oliver’s managed to pull a goal back but it was all too late as Seneschalstown won by three points.

It was a very entertaining game for the few Seneschalstown supporters that travelled. A huge positive was seeing Mark Horrigan and Adam McCabe back playing in a Seneschalstown jersey
