Injury Time Point Secures Deserved Draw

Kepak Junior C Championship Round 2

Seneschalstown 2-7 Drumbaragh Emmets 2-7

A point in the 64th minute from Eve Wardick Clarke secured a well-deserved draw for Seneschalstown Junior Ladies in Round 2 of the Kepak Junior C championship against Drumbaragh Emmets in Fr Tully Park.

It was the visitors who posted the first score in the 5th minute and increased the lead to 2 points by the 10th minute. Although the home team were well in the game, scores were proving hard to come by playing into the breeze. It took until the 20th minute for Wardick Clarke to open Seneschalstown’s account and it was the same player who added a second on 24 minutes. Drumbaragh added a further 3 points in the last 10 minutes of the half to lead 0-2 to 0-5 at the break.

When play resumed for the second half it took less than a minute for Seneschalstown to draw level when Wardick Clark found the net. However, the Drumbaragh girls hit a purple patch and tagged on 2-2 in the next 6 minutes to go 8 points clear by the 37th minute. In fact, this was the last time the visitors would trouble the scoreboard.

Seneschalstown set about reducing the deficit with two quick fire points from Ruth Commons in the 38th and 39th minutes. On 45 minutes Wardick Clarke again found the net and by the 49th minutes the deficit was down to one with points from Commons and Kelly Smith.

A nail-biting last 10 minutes ensued as the home side fought hard for the equalizer and the defense had to be on their toes as Drumbaragh fought to extend the lead. As time ticked away eventually Wardick Clarke would level things up at the death to ensure a share of the spoils.

Like their Senior counterparts the previous week, the never say die attitude, commitment and work rate from the team was very evident.

Following victory over Simonstown in round 1, Seneschalstown will play host to Boardsmill in their final group game on Tue Aug 12th in Fr Tully Park with a place in the knock-out stages firmly in their sights.
