Seneschalstown 1-13 Clonard 2-8
Following on from the Senior teams success on Friday night, Seneschalstown’s Junior side completed a good weekend for the club when accounting for Clonard in the opening round of the Division 4 League in Seneschalstown on Saturday evening. Johnny Keating’s charges overcame the concession of an early goal to eventually win by two points.

Following on from the Senior teams success on Friday night, Seneschalstown’s Junior side completed a good weekend for the club when accounting for Clonard in the opening round of the Division 4 League in Seneschalstown on Saturday evening. Johnny Keating’s charges overcame the concession of an early goal to eventually win by two points.
Johnny Gilsenan, fresh from his exploits with Seniors the night before, was first to get his name on the scoresheet with a point from out on the left. Clonard, for who this was their first team, equalised in the third minute. The side from southwest Meath took the lead with a quickfire 1-01 in the ninth minute moving them four points ahead. Gilsenan was sharp in front of goal and his ball winning ability was key, three points in a row from him reduced the gap to a single point, before Dylan Keating was able to put Seneschalstown ahead again with a couple of points of his own. Another Gilsenan effort sandwiched in between two from the visitors had the game level in first half stoppage time. However, Seneschalstown received a timely boost when an unlikely source in peter Tierney was on hand to side foot the ball to the net at the end of a flowing move, handing Seneschalstown a three point lead at the break.
James Meade curled over the first point of the second half, and Gilsenan followed up with his sixth of the evening. All of a sudden Seneschalstown had a five point cushion but it wouldn’t last long as the visitors had the ball in the Cathal Darby’s net a second time. A high ball in was punched onto the crossbar and it fell nicely for the Clonard player on the ground who had the simple task of palming into the empty net. Seneschalstown managed to soak up some pressure and concede off the back of this goal and nine minutes later Gilsenan settled his again with a score. Clonard were never able to get any closer than two points for the remainder of the game, and points from Gilsenan, who finished with eight, Dyaln Keating (free) and substitute Damien Sheridan steered the hosts home to pick up a very welcome two points.
