Seneschalstown 3-10 Trim 1-10An intriguing clash of the Division 1 and 2 League Champions was in store for spectators in Trim on Tuesday evening and for large spells it would have been a difficult task for a neutral to identify which team was which as Seneschalstown and Trim slugged it out.

Seneschalstown 3-10 Trim 1-10An intriguing clash of the Division 1 and 2 League Champions was in store for spectators in Trim on Tuesday evening and for large spells it would have been a difficult task for a neutral to identify which team was which as Seneschalstown and Trim slugged it out.
In the end it was the greater ability of the Seneschalstown side to convert their goal chances which proved crucial as a Tom Barron brace and a great Jamie Kirwan strike proved pivotal while at the other end Trim were unable to carve out clear-cut chances, thanks largely to some excellent scrambling defence from the visitors.
After getting off to a bright start during which Tom Barron flicked in the 1st of his goals after a Ross Mullen point effort was half blocked and fell short, Seneschalstown led by 1-04 to 0-01 with 12 minutes on the clock despite playing into a relatively stiff breeze. In this spell the Commons brothers Sean and Donal along with Joe Moore had raised white flags. Trim then came storming back into the game and playing some enterprising football hit a goal and 6 points in a row as they began to dominate.
A pointed free from Sean Commons in the 24th minute steadied the Seneschalstown ship somewhat before Barron flicked in his 2nd goal, much to the consternation of the Trim sideline who went apoplectic with the decision to award it as they believed a free out should have been awarded for a square ball. This left Seneschalstown 1 point to the good but a pointed free on the stroke of half time saw the teams head for the sanctuary of the dressing room on level terms, Seneschalstown 2-05 Trim 1-08.
Scores were hard to come by for both sides early in the 2nd half with only 2 points coming in the opening 10 minutes, Trim landing a free and Jeaic Timmons surging forward from his centre back berth to hoist over an inspirational effort under pressure. Ross Mullen then followed up with a long-range point on 45 minutes before Jamie Kirwan, coming in on goal from the right-hand side, checked back to create half a yard of space before sending a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
From here to the end the Joe Cowley managed side were never headed with Sean Commons adding a brace of points while younger brother Donal lofted over his 2nd effort of the evening as in the end Seneschalstown ran out 6 point winners.
Best for the winners were the redoubtable Simon Rooney at full back, Cillian Lawlor and Jamie Kirwan.
