Seneschalstown 2-16 Boardsmill 6-03
Seneschalstown girls were in action again in the Division 1 Minor Championship on Sunday last the 18th October. This was Round 4 and Boardsmill provided the opposition who in the past had proved difficult to overcome.
During the first half it looked like Seneschalstown were going to be overrun as Boardsmill raided in on goal and found the back of the net on no less than five occasions. Many a team would have lost heart from such an onslault but not this bunch of girls from Yellow Furze.

Seneschalstown girls were in action again in the Division 1 Minor Championship on Sunday last the 18th October. This was Round 4 and Boardsmill provided the opposition who in the past had proved difficult to overcome.
During the first half it looked like Seneschalstown were going to be overrun as Boardsmill raided in on goal and found the back of the net on no less than five occasions. Many a team would have lost heart from such an onslault but not this bunch of girls from Yellow Furze.
Amy Gilsenan opened their scoring with an early point, followed by points from Kiah Geraghty (2), Stacey Grimes (2), Natasha Mullen and a further 2 points from Gilsenan. Although the gap on the scoreboard was wide, Seneschalstown were clocking up the scores with good regularity and now growing in confidence they could have had a couple of goals but for the steady hands of the Boardsmill goalkeeper.
By half time Seneschalstown trailed by 9 points but this was not a true reflection of events. For Senescalstown had actually outscored their opponents 8 scores to 7 giving a half time score line of Seneschalstown 0-08 Boardsmill 5-02.
Right from the start of the second half, Seneschalstown piled on the pressure, building from the back with clever kickouts from Nora Kilmartin and a defence lead by Aisling Taffe, Natasha Mullen and ably assisted by Orla McMahon, Nina Simpson and Shona Loughran who now operated in the half back line. With Kiah Geraghty and Stacy Grimes providing the energy and drive from centre field, it was Grimes who continually ran at their defence notching up 5 points from play and placed ball and also slotted home a well taken goal from the penalty spot.
Despite Amy Gilsenan being doubled marked and at times having three defenders on her she still managed to break through to get Seneschalstowns second goal which she buried high to the back of the net. With Aoife Lenehan, Catherine Smith, Grainne Gordan and new comer Chrystal Delemere providing the vital support, Gilsenan tormented the Boardsmill defence and secured a further four points, the last of which secured the victory in the closing minute.
This was one of the best second half performances seen this year and goes to show what can be achieved with belief, determination and a never say die attitude. Full credit to these girls as they prepare for their next challenge.
