Seneschalstown 2-15 Walterstown 4-06
Seneschalstown’s Under 14s made the short trip to Walterstown on Wednesday to take on their hosts in Round 3 of the Summer League. Again, both teams served up a cracking game of football in the summer sunshine. And indeed it was the visitors who got off to the ideal start when Alan Mulvany fired high into the Walterstown net after only 4 minutes. The goal came after excellent tackling from Simon Rooney and an interchange of passes between Dylan Keating and team captain Cathal Hickey.

Scores were at a premium in the opening quarter with the games second score coming in the 17th minute via Sean Commons after build up play involving Mulvany and Adam O’Mara. Three minutes later O’Mara registered his first point of the game from play. On 24 minutes Commons grabbed his second point after full forward Jason Lyons found him in acres of space 21 yards out. Ross Mullen then hit a brace of points in consecutive attacks. The first came after an excellent foot pass from Mulvany and the second after Daire Finnegan expertly won the resulting kickout.
It took 27 minutes for the hosts to score and it was a green flag they raised in the process. O’Mara responded brilliantly by kicking a fabulous point from the right corner on 29 minutes. Walterstown concluded the first half scoring by pointing a free in the 32nd minute.
Half Time: Seneschalstown 1-06 Walterstown 1-01.
It didn’t take the hosts long to open their second half account which was a pointed free two minutes in. They added a second goal and two points to go into the lead by the minimum. The Yellow Furze men settled and hit two points in the 38th and 40th minutes. Cillian Gormley opened his account with the first effort and the excellent Commons registered his third from play in the 40th minute.
The ‘blacks’ opened up a three point lead by the 44th minute by netting goal number 3 and raising a white flag. Seneschalstown responded through a fourth Commons point in the 45th minute. With 10 minutes remaining the visitors hit the front again when Gormley found the net after being played through by Mullen. Midfielder O’Mara then doubled the advantage by kicking his third point of the hour. Walterstown replied with another 1-01 but would not score again for the remainder of the game.
Seneschalstown reeled off five points in a row in a four minute spell to see themselves over the line. Keating (2) and Commons scored points in 60 seconds before 30 seconds later Keating hit another after a Daire Finnegan pass. Lyons wrapped up the scoring and the vital two points with a 57th minute point.
It was an excellent team performance and a gutsy display having found themselves behind in the second half. Another pleasing aspect was that all 2-15 came from play.
