Minor FL Div3 Semi-Final

Mon 3rd May Seneschalstown 0 – 09 Moynalvey 2 – 9

In this very exciting Minor League semi final Seneschalstown unfortunately didn’t play to their potential and came up against a much hungrier Moynalvey team on the day, it was just one of those games for the Seneschalstown lads where you couldn’t fault the efforts and commitment on behalf of all the players but nothing seems to go right on the day in comparison to everything going right for the Moynalvey lads. Seneschalstown played against a strong wind in the first half and Moynalvey settled much quicker into the game and were 4 points to one up after only 10 mins but at this point Seneschalstown found their range with two free’s from James Conlon before Moynalvey strunk on the break after an interception and scored a goal, Niall Groom replied with a point after a strong run through the heart of the Moynalvey defence and after a quick passing move with Paul Brady scored a good point. Moynalvey were pressing hard at this point and only for some good defensive work from Team Cummins, Ross Walsh, Willie Mullins and Ciaran Flynn could have been further ahead and went in leading 1 – 05 to 0 – 04 at half time.

The second half started with Seneschalstown on the attack again but couldn’t breach the Moynalvey rear-guard and once again from a turn-over of posession Moynalvey made a quick break up-field and their shot on goal came thundering off the cross-bar and unbelieveable straight back into the arms of the in-running forward who only had to tap the ball into the back of the Seneschalstown net, this gave the Seneschalstown a big hill to climb and when we missed a number of scorable free’s we lost the momentum and couldn’t eat into this Moynalvey lead. Scores from James Conlon, Colin Lynch, Gerard Mc Kendry and Thomas Duggan kept Seneschalstown in touch but they couldn’t breakdown a very resolute Moynalvey rear-guard to snatch a goal.

This was a hard defeat for the Seneschalstown lads to take after playing so well to fininsh second in the group and in fact having the best score difference of any of the teams that qualified, but unfortunately it was just one of those days and even the Moynalvey management admitted that everything went their way but it still has to be said that they were the better team on the day and deserved their victory.

Seneschalstow Team ; Ciaran Flynn, Liam Tully, Tean Cummins, Ross Walsh, Willie Mullins, Tim Kiernan, Niall Groome, Gerard Mc Kendry, Cormac Noonan, Thomas Duggan, Colin Lynch, Adam Gargan, Eamon Sheridan, James Conlon, Paul Brady, Subs, Max Mc Farland for Paul Brady.
