Seneschalstown lead from start to finish as they earned themselves a comfortable victory over St. Patrick’s on Friday night in the opening round of Meath LGFA Minor Championship. Manager Anthony Monaghan will be impressed by this display from the team as they picked off scores regularly, before three goals in the final quarter put a gloss on the scoreline in a game played in damp conditions.

Seneschalstown lead from start to finish as they earned themselves a comfortable victory over St. Patrick’s on Friday night in the opening round of Meath LGFA Minor Championship. Manager Anthony Monaghan will be impressed by this display from the team as they picked off scores regularly, before three goals in the final quarter put a gloss on the scoreline in a game played in damp conditions.
With 8 girls on the team who featured at various stages during the Senior Ladies run to the Senior Championship final, the spine was strong helped lay the foundations for this dominant display.
Kellie Stafford opened the scoring for the home side after one minute of play, and despite some early wides Seneschalstown kept creating opportunities. Aly Clarke popped up with Seneschalstown’s second point when fisting over bar, with Clarke also providing the assist for her sides next point for Tara Traynor to finish. Stafford got her second point of the game before St. Patrick’s opened their account for the evening. Seneschalstown added three more points before the water break, two frees for Traynor and a score from the hard working Zoe Kirwan.
St. Pat’s narrowed the deficit slightly with two points in a row, with Holly Knowles responding for the hosts. Aly Clarke from play and a Traynor free closed out the scoring for Seneschalstown in the opening half with a solitary reply from the East Meath outfit, leaving it 0-11 to 0-04 at the break.
The scores were very short in supply in the third quarter, as both sides were guilty of slightly erratic shooting, but it could also be attributed to some good defending at both ends. Tara Traynor knocked over a close range free to break the duck.
However, in the final quarter Seneschalstown put the shooting right and plundered three goals to seal the two points for themselves. Zoe Kirwan started the scoring burst when she broke through the St. Pat’s defence and clinically dispatched to the roof of the net. Substitute Megan Connolly quickly added a point in between as Seneschalstown had their second goal in as many minutes. Kellie Stafford played a one-two with Traynor before finishing to the net. The visitors replied with their sixth effort of the hour, however Seneschalstown put another 1-04 on the board in a four minute spell to bring up their tally of 3-17. Midfielder Charlie Murray and Tara Traynor each kicked two points, with Megan Connolly finding a good position to finish low to the net for the third goal. St. Pat’s rounded out the scoring for the hour with a final point, but Seneschalstown will be happy to pick up a good victory to get their campaign off to a positive ahead of games against Skryne and Walterstown.
