Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 Round 3
Seneschalstown 0-12 Moylagh 3-13
Goals were the undoing of Seneschalstown in this Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 Round 3 encounter in Moylagh on Sunday morning. Played on a wonderfully sunny Sunday morning, Moylagh’s pitch was in immaculate condition and credit must go to the host club for their hard work on the playing surface which is definitely among the finest in the county.
It was the visitors to North Meath who made a quick start when Alex Finnegan pointed inside 30 seconds but the home side quickly asserted control with three points to move two in front by the eighth minute. Jamie Barry answered with a tidy score for Seneschalstown but the first two pointer of the game went the way of the home side after 11 minutes. Seán Commons offered brief respite to Seneschalstown with his first of the hour but Moylagh broke through for the first of their goals in the eighteenth minute.
A superb two pointer from Commons off the outside of his right foot from the left hand side looked to offer Seneschalstown a way back into the game in the run up to the break but three further scores for Moylagh including a two point effort had them seven up at the break, 1-09 to 0-05.
Seneschalstown’s task at the start of the second half was not helped when Moylagh found the net for a second time from what looked to be a harshly awarded penalty after 33 minutes. Another point had Moylagh ahead by double figures, however Seneschalstown were about to enjoy their best spell of the game with points from Éamon Finnegan, , Alex Finnegan and a brace from Seán Commons which left seven points between the sides.
Seneschalstown though, couldn’t create any goal chances with proved detrimental to their comeback hopes and Moylagh compounded this when they rattled in a third goal as the final quarter began and ended the game as a contest. The last quarter went score for score as Éamon Finnegan and another two pointer, this time from Seán Davis rounded out Seneschalstown’s tally on another tough day for the Furze men where they ended with 14 men after one of their players was the recipient of two yellow cards.
