Oldcastle 6-4 Seneschalstown 0-14

The old adage of goals win games was very evident as Seneschalstown went under to Oldcastle in Millbrook on Sunday evening. Despite scoring more times than the home team, Oldcastle’s ability to find the net was the deciding factor in windy conditions on a heavy pitch.

Playing into the wind in the first half, the Furze Girls got off to a flier with three excellent points from play from Chrystal Delamere, Ava Jane Ryan and Sorcha Gough in the opening seven minutes. Oldcastle got their first goal in the tenth minutes but Gough got the visitors back in front with another outstanding team score. Two minutes later however, Oldcastle got their second major with a fantastic strike from a difficult angle. The home team tagged on another 2-03 before the break to leave the HT score at 4-03 to 0-04.

Now playing with the wind the Furze Girls set about cutting the deficit but were rocked by a fortunate Oldcastle goal just after the break. However, within three minutes the Furze Girls had cancelled this out with points from play from Gough, Katie Geraghty and Delamere. Playing with a lot more cohesion additional points were added from Shona Loughran (4), Gough from a free, Delamere and Geraghty and there were a good number of chances wasted along with some excellent goalkeeping from the home teams net minder. Oldcastle did get another goal of the fortunate variety after Chloe Williams done extremely well to get back to block but the ball spun into the net.

Although losing by eight points in the end, the score line probably does not do justice to the effort put in by every player. Best for Seneschalstown were Chloe Williams, Chrystal Delamere, Sorcha Gough and Shona Loughran.

The team has two matches left in the division with back matches against Skryne and Na Fianna and will be hoping to pick up enough points to progress to the semi-finals.

Team: Shauna Gordon, Aine Nangle, Chloe Williams, Aoife Darby, Leanne Clarke, Ella Waddington, Chrystal Delamere (0-03), Aoife Lenehan, Katie Geraghty (0-02), Sorcha Gough (0-04), Lauren Donnelly, Shona Loughran (0-04), Aoife Mulvany, Ava Jane Ryan (0-01).
