The Seneschalstown Player Profiles For The 1972 Meath SFC Final

Padraig Collins: goalkeeper, 27. A member of the team which won the intermediate championship in 1967. Played with distinction in several positions. This is his first season as custodian and he had already earned admiration for his safe keeping.

Tommy Finnegan: right-full-back, 19. Team’s youngest member. Only came on to the senior side for the game against Kells and is now an automatic choice. He has already won ten championship medals – two juvenile, one under-16, two under-17, three minor and two under-21, as well as a Feis Cup medal. Played for the Meath minors last year.

Seanie Bowens: full-back, 26. One of the team’s strong men, Seanie made a comeback to football in 1971 and this year took over the full-back berth. Back to his brilliant best after a shoulder injury. He holds under-17 and minor medals and an intermediate title token.

Seanie Finnegan: left-full-back, 25. Iron man of the side, Seanie came out of retirement 12 months ago to take a permanent place in the left corner of the defence.

Mickey Collins: right-half-back, 26. Team captain, Mickey is one of Seneschalstown’s brightest stars. Formerly a full back, he starred at centre-half until an injury forced him to step down. Earned the recognition of the Meath senior selectors this year. Holds under-17, minor, intermediate and Feis Cup medals.

Paddy Duggan: centre-half-back, 26. Paddy reverts to centre-half-back after a spell in attack. A very versatile player who can fill almost any position. He holds under-17, minor, intermediate and Feis Cup medals.

Mickey McCabe: left-half-back, 21. Mickey is quickly making a name for himself. A member of the Meath senior and Under-21 panels this year. He is a player who has the flair for the big occasion. Mickey holds under-14, under-16, 18, 21 championship and a Feis Cup token.

Ollie Geraghty: centrefield, 33. Oldest member of the team. Ollie played inter-county football with Louth before coming to live in Beauparc in 1966. Helped Seneschalstown to an intermediate championship success in 1967 and was on the All-Ireland title winning panel the same year. Went to Australia on the 1968 trip but shortly afterwards was forced out of the game through injury. Made a comeback last year and is now playing better than ever. Made a return to the county colours this year.

Larry Kearns: centrefield, 27. Native of Yellow Furze, Larry played most of his football with neighbouring Slane. Came back ‘home’ to Seneschalstown this year.

Frank Heskin: right-half-forward, 22. New to the number 10 jersey, Frank played with the Meath under-21 team in 1971. But it is at centrefield that he carved a niche for himself with Seneschalstown. Moved to the forwards in the semi-final. Can be relied upon to fill his new role with distinction. Frank holds two under-21 medals as well as a Feis Cup award.

Petey Cromwell: centre-half-forward, 21. The forty seems to be Petey’s ideal position. One of the most promising of Seneschalstown’s young players, he played on the Meath under-21 team this year. He holds 10 underage championship medals. Also helped his side to a Feis Cup success.

Billy Collins: left-half-forward, 20. Billy has been playing senior football since he was 15, has played minor and under-21 with the county and is another holder of 10 championship medals.

Joe Brien: right-full-forward, 29. Longest-serving member of the team, Joe carried Seneschalstown on his back for years, with no visible rewards. If the Beauparc parish side win on Sunday nobody will be more deserving of a senior medal than Joe Brien.

Terry McDonagh: full-forward, 25. Another player who has been plagued with injury this year. Terry has been showing promise in his new position. Holder of intermediate and Feis Cup medals.

Sonny Carter: left-full-forward, 26. Free-taker-in-chief, Sonny will severely punish any fouling by the opposing defence. Can be brilliant on his day. Holder of under-17, minor and intermediate championship medals as well as a Feis Cup token.
