At half time in this Kepak Junior C championship match played in Simonstown, the odds on Seneschalstown getting something from the game looked remote. However, a few changes and positional switches at half time worked wonders as Seneschalstown hauled themselves back from a 12-point deficit to secure victory. With both teams already guaranteed quarter final action, the winner of this game would secure vital home advantage for the quarter final.
When proceeding got underway, the home side playing with the aid of a strong cold breeze, got off the mark early and scored 1-2 without reply. Seneschalstown began to get more possession but couldn’t convert into scores. Simonstown continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over at regular intervals over the half. Four Points from Lucy Lynch, Lana Wardick and Ava Jane Ryan over the course of the half wasn’t a true reflection of the efforts of the Seneschalstown Ladies who put some fine moves together during the half.
With some changes and positional switches, Seneschalstown set about cutting the deficit right from the throw in with early points from Anna Donelly and Ryan and a fine goal from Eve Wardick- Clarke following an excellent passing movement. Seneschalstown were putting a lot of pressure on the Simonstown kickout and winning plenty of possession. As the half wore on the Donnelly sisters Anna and Sarah Jane were making vital contributions to the scoreboard scoring 3 goals and a number of points between them, set up by some excellent play right from the backs to the forwards. Simonstown were finding it much harder to get possession up front with the Seneschalstown rearguard intercepting and blocking well and limiting Simonstown to 3 points in the second half. Seneschalstown’s cornerback Catherine Monaghan also got on the scoresheet with a point from play to seal the win and progression to a home semifinal against Na Fianna on the weekend of Aug 22nd.
