Reserve Cup Division 2 Final Preview

Quarryland Construction Reserve Cup Division 2 Final Preview

Seneschalstown v St. Patrick’s, Thursday April 4th in Stamullen at 8pm.

The chance to win the club’s first bit of adult silverware since October 2021 is on the line for Seneschalstown’s second string when they make the journey east to play St. Patrick’s in the final of the Quarryland Construction Reserve Cup Division 2 on Thursday evening.   As with all of the Cup Finals in Meath this week, the venue was decided by a coin toss for home advantage and it went the way of the east coast side on this occasion.

Both teams have enjoyed unbeaten Cup runs in this competition thus far and will hope to maintain their 100% record tomorrow night which would ultimately lead to the trophy.   Stan O’Brien’s men enjoyed victories over neighbours Walterstown on a scoreline of 6-09 to 3-07 and Duleek/Bellewstown by 1-14 to 0-09 in the group stage before accounting for Blackhall Gaels 2-12 to 0-10 in the last four.

St. Patrick’s road to this stage was definietely more stop-start, with a win over Na Fianna to go along with a walkover received from Bective in two of their group games.   There was no score available on the Meath GAA website for their other group game against Blackhall Gaels which suggests the points were shared due to the inclement weather.   In the last four, they were pitted against Walterstown and like Seneschasltown they knocked six goals past them to win 6-16 to 0-09 as they secured a final spot.   With their Intermediate team having lost the Corn na Bóinne semi-final to Oldcastle, the home side will no doubt call on some of that first team experience on Thursday night.

As mentioned above, you have to go back to October 31st 2021 for the last adult piece of silverware that came back through the gates of Fr. Tully Park.   On that occasion, Blackhall Gaels were defeated in the Premier Championship Division 4 Final in Páirc Táilteann and there are a number of players who lined out for our third team that day who will feature on Thursday night.   The last time the second team were in the winners enclosure was when current Meath Minor manager Joe Cowley brought the Fr. Tully Cup home after claiming success in the 2015 Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Final, and on Thursday night the current crop of Seneschalstown players will hope to do likewise.

A big Seneschalstown support will be required on Thursday evening, and with the evenings getting brighter why not bring the colour and the noise to Stamullen and get behind the lads.
