B League Division 1 Round 8
Seneschalstown 1-12 Navan O’Mahonys 3-19
On a perfect evening for football the Junior B team from Seneschalstown took to the field against a Navan O’Mahonys side operating in the Junior A Championship. In what was there first competitive match in fifty seven days Seneschalstown’s lack of match sharpness was evident as their neighbours strolled to a comfortable success.
Navan O’Mahonys opened the scoring after only thirty seconds and within the opening quarter had registered a further goal and two points. Minor player Daire Geraghty scored what transpired to be the only score of the half for the home side when pointing after a quick free found him in space after nineteen minutes but from there until the interval seventeen minutes later it was all one way traffic as O’Mahonys laid siege to the railway goal. In this period they scored a goal and six points to leave the half time score reading 2-09 to 0-01 and the game already over as a contest.
The town men opened the second half scoring with another point from play before half time substitute James Conlon got his sides second of the match. Conlon then showed his ability from placed balls when kicking over a ’45 after having a goal attempt saved. The sudden burst of Seneschalstown scores continued with a pointed David Hosie free followed by a Shane Clarke minor which went over with the assistance of the right hand upright following good work from Hosie and Johnathan Gilsenan.
A pointed free from the Navan men brought this scoring run to an end before Hosie tapped over a thirteen metre free followed by another point from Conlon, this one coming from play out on the right. David Hosie then sent the ball high between the posts in response to another effort from play for the Navan side.
O’Mahonys then kicked two points in a row before another ’45 from Conlon before Shane Clarke knocked over two close range frees. Ross Howard struck the bar before the ball was worked the length of the field for a Navan O’Mahonys point on fifty six minutes before Hosie showed his goal poaching instincts when rolling home after capitalising on good play from Steven Dillon.
However just as they had done in the closing period of the first half Navan O’Mahonys got on a roll and hit a goal and four points in a blistering three minutes spell before Rob Darby closed the scoring for the evening deep into stoppage time.
