Our Lady’s Hospital is currently entering a critical phase. A key surgery ward has been closed down in the last few months, staff numbers are being reduced and remaining wards are experiencing overcrowding, with seriously ill people now forced to wait on trolleys overnight next to the closed ward.
Emergency personnel such as cardiac technicians who carry out stress tests on patients with serious heart problems and speech therapists who intervene during swallowing emergencies are not being replaced. Further serious cuts are expected to occur on 1st of December which will make it next to impossible to deliver existing services.
The new ‘Small Hospitals Report’ which will recommend the ending of 24 hour accident and emergency in a number of hospitals throughout the state is expected to target Navan for service reduction also. Meanwhile Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, buckling under the pressure of the second worst trolley count in the state is not a fit alternative.
The Save Navan Hospital Campaign will hold a mass rally in support of the retention of existing services and the return of recently removed resources to our hospital, on Saturday the 17th of November at 1pm, assembling at the Enterprise Centre, Trim Road, Navan.
We need the support of all Meath clubs and organsations in order to protect our county and our people. We need you to show your frustration at the erosion of our rights and our determination to stop the cuts and save our hospital. A large turnout is required to show the government that the people of meath will not be moved on this issue.
Please print off and distribute the attached poster/flyer and convince your friends and neighbiours to attend, as it is in their interest.
