Seneschalstown travelled to Millbrook for their opening Division 1 league game of the season against Oldcastle eager to start the year off on a good note having slipped up when playing away to the same opposition last year. Following a tough battle over the hour, a relieved team emerged victorious by five points.
A good start can often be half the battle and from the off Seneschalstown appeared eager to put this theory to the test and with the aid of the elements were 1-07 to 0-00 up after twenty minutes with Bryan Clarke notching three points from centre forward and Jonathan Gilsenan notching the goal, continuing where he left off with his impressive performances in the Junior B Championship last year.
Oldcastle then began to gain a foothold in the contest and notched four points in the ten minutes leading up to half time to leave the score at the interval reading Seneschalstown 1-07 Oldcastle 0-04.
Manager Damien Sheridan introduced David Matthews and Ross Howard in place of James Byrne and Clarke at half time but Oldcastle remained on top at the commencement of the second half.
Gradually Seneschalstown got back into the game and closed out proceedings with the last three points of the game to secure the victory and return home with the two points in the bag. One of the more welcome sights of the second half was the return to senior action of Adam Gleeson who was absent last year through injury.
