Seneschalstown claimed the Girls u12 Div 2 Shield with a hard fought victory over Moylagh on Fri June 29th in Martry. Seneschalstown started the game well but couldn’t turn the possession into scores and had 3 early wides. Moylagh opened the scoring with a point from play but Shona Loughran opened Seneschalstown’s account with a well taken goal. Aishling Clarke added a point from a free to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-1 after the first quarter. Moylagh levelled matters soon after with a goal but again Loughran responded with another goal. Moylagh responded with a point but Loughran again pointed before halftime after a good crossfield pass from Aoife Mulvany to leave the HT score at 2-2 to 1-2 in favour of Seneschalstown.
The second half started with neither team finding their range early on but Moylagh cut the deficit with their 3rd point but once again Seneschalstown responded well when Loughran scored her 3rd goal. Another point from Loughran had the Seneschalstown girls up by 7 points. However Moylagh came right back into contention with 2 goals to cut the deficit to a single point. Aisling Clarke put 2 points between the sides with a well taken point from play before Loughran scored her 4th goal to ease Seneschalstown nerves. Loughran completed the scoring with a point from play to give the Seneschalstown girls victory.
After the game Meath’s Donal Keogan presented the Shield to Seneschlastown’s Captain Chrystal Delamere.
This victory was based on a good team display with goalie Katie Fitzsimons making some excellent saves, the defence of Lauren Donnelly, Saoirse McLoughlin, Aibhe Monaghan, Chrystal Delamere and Sorcha Gough tackled and cleared well, midfielders Leanne Clarke who tackled and tracked back to great effect and Shona Loughran who was top scorer and the forwards of Caradh Monaghan, Aishling Clarke, Sinead McLarney, Aoife Mulvany and Leah Ryan and substitutes Shauna Gordan, Lydia Stimpson and Megan Darby all contributing to this fine display on the night.
In addition Amy Barter, Katie Geraghty, Chloe Williams and Kim Rice who were unavailable on the night also contributed to a great effort from the girls over the season.
