Tues 3rd Jun Summerhill 1-9 Seneschalstown 2-9

In very wet slippery conditions in Summerhill on Tuesday night, 3rd June Seneschalstown shaded it over the hour in the Division 1 FL.

Both teams were short players but Summerhill had more chances to win it but were denied by a couple of great saves form the Seneschalstown keeper.

Tony McDonnell at centre forward was having a good tussle with John Comey and kicked a brace of points in the first half. He pulled the strings for Seneschalstown in attack while at the other end Summerhill’s Paul Comey and Paul Rispin were causing headaches for Seneschalstown’s backs.

John Loughrey put away Summerhill’s goal after a ball in from Gary Rispin, which was knocked down by Shane Grey to Loughrey. Indeed Rispin’s switch out to centre forward lifted Summerhill coming up to half time and they tagged on two points before the break but Joe Sheridan had already put Seneschalstown in front with a brace of frees to see his side lead 1-7 to 1-3.

Paul Comey edged Hill closer early on in second half but Seneschalstown were getting the better of midfield and used the long ball to great effect. For their second goal another big delivery caught out Niall O’Reilly and Sheridan put it away. Summerhill fought back tenaciously and good pressure from their forwards forced a bad clearance and Gary Rispin pounced to drive over from thirty yards to set up a comeback. Conor Macken was getting a lot of room as Summerhill pushed forward but Seneschalstown wasted possession when they got nearer to the danger zone.

At the other end Summerhill were guilty of a few wayward passes going over the end line. Paul Rispin set up John Loughrey for a super goal chance but the Seneschalstown ‘keeper pushed his effort over the bar. Then Loughrey picked out Gary Rispin racing through the middle and his left foot shot was somehow tipped out for a 45.

Tony McDonnell kicked another point but Hill could have stolen it at the end. The win lifts Seneschalstown off bottom and puts Summerhill out of the top four with 7 pts from 7 games. Best for Summerhill were Paul Rispin, Paul Comey, Jackie Ennis, John Comey and Gary Rispin. Best for Seneschalstown were Tony McDonnell, Joe Sheridan and Conor Macken.
