THE 2007 Feis Cup final brought about 500 enthusiasts to Pairc Tailteann last Saturday night where reigning SFC champions Seneschalstown added some early, or late, depending on your opinion about last year`s competition, silverware to their 2008 cupboard.
This was a totally deserved victory which had the clubs young supporters singing – “Seneschalstown are wonderful” – throughout the second-half and it could be the wisdom of youth providing a picture of the future?

This was a totally deserved victory which had the clubs young supporters singing – “Seneschalstown are wonderful” – throughout the second-half and it could be the wisdom of youth providing a picture of the future?
There was as much to admire about Seneschalstown`s performance as they were streets ahead of their opponents on the night.
Michael Brennan was one of Simonstown`s better performers and claimed a brace of points while Wayne McCarthy scored three in each half and John Lunney completed the tally. Lunney was also denied a goal by the woodwork in the 22nd minute and soon after was thwarted by a fine David Lyons save when the `keeper advanced smartly to the 13-metre line to avert danger.
Two goals would have boosted Simonstown`s bid enormously, but the fact that they failed to find the net from those opportunities appeared to leave them totally deflated. Seneschalstown were ahead by 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval with the goal arriving from Brian Sheridan`s deft flick which skimmed the inside of the post and beat Gary Lynch`s slow-motion dive to his left.
Seneschalstown upped the tempo in the second-half once the Gaels reduced the deficit to two points. Tommy Ledwidge ghosted in for a goal after Brennan added a tick to his yellow card for a crude challenge. Ahead by 2-7 to 0-8 with about 20 minutes remaining, there was only going to be one winner. Damien Sheridan kicked a great point which was bettered by Brian Clarke before the end, but the biggest cheer was reserved for the introduction of Joe Sheridan with two minutes remaining.
Seneschalstown certainly produced plenty of evidence to indicate that they will be difficult to topple. Meath Co Committee vice-chairman Cathal Joyce referred to the historic Feis Cup in his presentation speech. He stated that the Co Committee intend to make it a great competition again.
