Seneschalstown earned a place in the semi-final of the Leinster Senior Club Championship with a phenomenal win over Grange of Kildare last Sunday.
The Yellow Furze side opened brightly with points from Grainne Nulty and Fiona Mahon however were unlucky to lose the latter through injury in the early stages of the game. Substitute Sarah Wogan was introduced and was outstanding for Seneschalstown with a hat-trick of goals to her credit and finished top scorer with 3-2. Seneschalstown dominated the midfield exchanges, with Annette O’ Connell adopting a third midfielder role and Nulty working tirelessly to curtail the strong running of Kildares Brianne Leahy who was a constant threat. Goals from Mary Sheridan (2) and Wogan laid the platform for a 3-6 to 0-3 half-time lead in favour of the visitors.
The Kildare side regrouped at half-time and made some changes in an effort to use wind advantage in the second half however the Seneschalstown defence coped superbly with Philomena Sheridan exceptional at full-back and the strong half- back line of Debbie Mangan, Louise McKeever and Orla Sheridan ensured the Seneschalstown goal was never in any danger. Wogan completed her hat-trick with two well-taken goals inside the third-quarter following good work by Adele Carolan while Eimear O’ Carroll added a sixth goal to complete the visitors goal-scoring tally. Further points from Sally-Ann Carolan (2) and Fiona Mahon (2) who was reintroduced in the closing stages laid the platform for an impressive victory. Best for Seneschalstown were Philomena Sheridan, Orla Sheridan, Grainne Nulty, Sarah Wogan, Mary Sheridan and Adele Carolan.
Seneschalstown will meet the winners of Rochfordbridge (Westmeath) and Ballyboden, St. Endas (Dublin) in the semi-final of the campaign, with the Dublin champions and provincial holders for the past two years most likely to advance from their quarter-final meeting and provide the opposition. This would set up a repeat of last years Leinster club semi-final between the Meath and Dublin champions (which Ballyboden won by 3 points) who incidentally have both similarly won their fourth consecutive senior title in their respective counties.
