Sun 6th May St. Patricks 1-8 Seneschalstown 1-5
St Patrick’s posted their first win in Group C of the Commons Hardware SFC in a poor match at Skryne on Sunday when they ended Seneschalstown winning run in competitive fixtures this year.

Goalkeeper Robert Closkey came to his side’s rescue on several occasions while in front of him the Stamullen rearguard stood firm against a Seneschalstown side that came into this fixture on the back of four league wins and victory over Walterstown in their championship opener.

Seneschalstown contributed to their own downfall by posting nine second-half wides but only managed to find the net through Davy Byrne’s fisted effort three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game.

The Stamullen men were resolute in defence where they were well served by former county man Cormac Murphy while Ciaran Calvey kept Joe Sheridan scoreless.

The sides were level three times in the opening quarter but boosted by a Niall Mooney goal, after Colin Clarke failed to cut out a long delivery, Paddy Clarke’s charges led by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break.

Just as in their opening fixture against Trim, St Pat’s managed only two points in the second-half but Damien Sheridan’s charges were unable to capitalise. Instead they failed to register between the 14th and 51st minutes by which time they were 0-3 to 1-8 in arrears.

Damien Sheridan junior ended Seneschalstown’s scoring blank but they managed just two further scores including Brian Sheridan’s second pointed free.

Wingback Stephen Sheridan opened the scoring for Seneschalstown within two minutes of the off and the sides were tied three times in the opening quarter.

St Pat’s hit the front for the first time when Cormac Sullivan placed Campbell to make it 0-3 to 0-2 after 13 minutes. That score was quickly cancelled out by Brian Sheridan but his side failed to register for another 37 minutes during which time the Stamullen posted 1-5 without reply.
