Senior Ladies: Saturday September 6th 2014 will be remembered for the day our Ladies team won their thirteenth Senior Championship in fifteen years. A remarkable point from Saturday is that seven of the starting team on Saturday were on the panel in 2000 when they won their first crown (six of the ladies started in 2000). The magnificent seven are Philomena Sheridan, Adelle Carolan, Edel McGrane, Mary Sheridan, Orla Sheridan, Louise Coyle and Grainne Nulty. It is an outstanding achievement.
St. Ultans once more provided the opposition on Saturday and went in at the interval one point ahead, 2-06 to 0-11. Seneschalstown continued to battle away in the second half and with Louise Coyle in unmarkable form up front ended up running out the victors by 2-16 to 2-10.
There were fantastic performances all over the field with each of the players contributing handsomely to the success. Corner back Seanaidh Hickey had to leave the action during the second half after picking up a knee injury and we would like to wish her a speedy recovery.
Senior: Our senior team bowed out of the Hoganstand.com Meath Senior Football Championship after a most disappointing 0-17 to 0-07 defeat to Summerhill on Sunday evening in Ashbourne.
Junior B: When the final whistle was blown in Ashbourne on Saturday evening it was a quick dash to Skryne where the Junior B team were in action at 20:00 against Slane. Leading by six points after fifty one minutes they ended up clinging on to a two point advantage in a match which could easily have slipped away from them.
Next up for the side is the semi-final in which they will play Duleek/Bellewstown at 12:00 in Donore on Sunday.
Minor: The Minor team are fixed to play Gaeil Colmcille on Sunday at 11:00 in Fr. Tully Park in Round 1 of their Championship.
U-17: Congratulations to out U-17 team who had a very hard fought Division 4 final victory over Brú na Boinne last Wednesday evening in Páirc Tailteann.
Trailing at half time they battled back to equalise with the last kick of the ball courtesy of an Eoin Finnegan free and then at the death in extra time Cathal Finnegan popped up to fist over the winning point.
Defeat was very tough on Brú na Boinne who performed excellently on the evening and could easily have taken the spoils.

U-13: Our U-13 have a busy week in store with league matches fixed for Thursday and Sunday.

Girls U-13: St Colmcilles 2-04 Seneschalstown 1-08
Seneschalstown overcame St Colmcille in the second round of the Girls U-13 League with a superbly hard fought victory in a wet Piltown by the narrowest margin.
Based on previous clashes between these groups of girls, this was expected to be a tough challenge for the furze girls who went to Piltown with hope rather than expectation.
Things didn’t start well for the visitors when they went a goal behind inside the first 5 minutes. Caradh Monaghan opened the Furze girls account after ten minutes with a point from play. Scores were hard to come by and another Monaghan score on fifteen minutes cut the deficit to the minimum. St Colmcilles increased the lead coming up to half time but points from Aoife Mulvany and Lauren Donnelly had the side’s level at 1-01 to 0-04 at HT with the Furze girls ruing some wayward shooting during the opening period.
Just like the first half things didn’t start well for the furze girls when they conceded a second goal within the first two minutes of the restart. But the girls contested for every ball and got back on the score sheet with points from Ava Garland and Sorcha Gough to cut the deficit to the minimum again. St Colmcilles increased the advantage back to three points but another Monaghan point and a superb individual point from Gough cut the deficit to the minimum again with less than ten minutes to go.
The crucial score came with about five minutes left when Kellie Smith, who has struck the butt of the post a few minutes earlier, fired the ball low to the Colmcilles net to put the furze girls in front for the first time. From that to the end it was a rear guard action as the home side pushed hard. The home team got a point from a close in free but the Furze girls held out for a hard fought victory.
This was a superb team effort from the Furze girls with a never say die attitude.
Both teams deserve great credit for serving up a very sporting match in wet conditions.
