Meath B League Division 1 Round 5

Skryne 4-14 Seneschalstown 3-12

On a day when these two sides served up a cracking game of football it was Skryne who came out on top by five points following a sublime attacking performance. Both sides deserve great credit for the football on show as they both looked to play with the shackles off and not a blanket in sight.

Skryne got off to the better start going three points to no score ahead with five minutes on the clock before Sean Doyle pulled his side back on to level terms when rattling the back of the Tara side’s net following good play from Sean Noonan and Aled Ingman. Noonan followed this up a few minutes later when pointing from play after some very patient build up play from the side in yellow. Skryne though soon hit a purple patch as they notched two goals and a point from open play in seven minutes. From here until the interval the sides then exchanged scores with Seneschalstown raising white flags courtesy of Hosie and Shane Clarke from frees and wing back Mark Fox from play while Skryne picked off a goal and two points to leave the half time score reading Skryne 3-06 Seneschalstown 1-04.

It took just fourteen seconds of the second half for Skryne to extend their advantage when pointing before Seneschalstown breathed some life into the game when scoring a goal and a point in under a minute. Firstly David Hosie pointed before Brendan Lynch beat the Skryne goalkeeper. The home side’s response was very impressive as they picked off three points in a row to cancel out Lynch’s goal before Shane Clarke from a free and Ross Howard added to the Seneschalstown account.

The open nature of the game continued with a Skryne goal and two points while Shane Clarke had a point sandwiched in between. Seneschalstown then scored a somewhat fortuitous goal when the ball appeared to ricochet into the net off Ciaran Macken, a score which seemed to revitalise his side as they embarked on a late scoring burst. Two more veterans of the side, Hosie and Clarke tagged on two points apiece and suddenly the prospect of an unlikely come from behind victory was on the cards. Skryne however steadied their ship with two points including a well struck forty five to secure their five point victory.

Seneschalstown will look to build upon this performance and had fine individual displays from Mark Fox, Sean Noonan, Shane Clarke and David Hosie.
