Seneschalstown entertained St. Peters Dunboyne in Round 3 of AFL on Sunday afternoon in a repeat of the 2014 Feis Cup final, when on that occasion Seneschalstown came out on top by a solitary point. However, Dunboyne were gunning for revenge and laid the foundations for victory with a strong opening half display.

Seneschalstown entertained St. Peters Dunboyne in Round 3 of AFL on Sunday afternoon in a repeat of the 2014 Feis Cup final, when on that occasion Seneschalstown came out on top by a solitary point. However, Dunboyne were gunning for revenge and laid the foundations for victory with a strong opening half display.
They kicked the first three points from play, before Adam Carey, who put in a hardworking shift 24 hours earlier for the clubs minor team, slotted over after Peter Watters found him in space. Dunboyne reeled off six points in a row, and then delivered a hammer blow to the hosts when Donal Lenihan finished low to the net. To their credit, Seneschalstown responded in the best possible manner. Joe Sheridan’s high ball was won by younger brother Brian who turned his marker before dispatching the ball to the net. Sheridan followed this up with a free but the visitors kicked the last two points of the half leaving nine points between the sides at the change of ends.
Dunboyne opened a double figure lead at the start of the second period before James Byrne showed his forwards the way it’s done with two quick-fire points. Another Sheridan free reduced the deficit to seven, but Dunboyne raised a second green flag on 38 minutes. Sheridan responded with a 45, but Dunboyne killed the game off as a contest with a third goal. Two more points increased the advantage but Sheridan responded with a pair of his own. The visitors kicked their last score with seven minutes left but Tean Cummins kicked an excellent point to wrap up the scoring. The hosts will hope to bounce back in the next round when they travel to Ballinlough.
