Following on from the senior team’s victory over Dunshaughlin the Junior D team emerged onto the pitch full of confidence due to their excellent recent run of form but anticipating a very tough encounter from their opponents who also boasted a 100% record from their opening two matches in the competition.

Following on from the senior team’s victory over Dunshaughlin the Junior D team emerged onto the pitch full of confidence due to their excellent recent run of form but anticipating a very tough encounter from their opponents who also boasted a 100% record from their opening two matches in the competition.
The opening exchanges of the match were tight with the scoreboard reading two points apiece after ten minutes with Eddie Meade and Paul McDonnell accounting for the Seneschalstown scores while Dunshaughlin scored two from play of their own. Mark Gilsenan then pointed on twelve minutes to edge the Yellow Furze back in front before influential wing back Shaun Doyle fell victim to the dreaded black card after body checking an opponent as he tried to run past.
Aled Ingman pointed a free to put two between the sides before the net minder from Dunshaughlin pulled off a stunning flying save from a Colin Lynch pile driver. The margin was back to a point following a pointed free for the men in black and amber before Seneschalstown tagged on five points in the run in to half time.
Firstly Brendan Lynch, on for Doyle, pointed after being set up by Colin Lynch before Paul McDonnell scored two inside a minute, the second of which was set up for him by Mark Gilsenan who was to go off injured five minutes later after shipping a hefty blow. From the free was awarded when Gilsenan got injured an effort for a point from Ingman just fell short but following some aerial ping pong in the square Tommy Duggan managed to grab hold of the ball before splitting the posts on the road end of the ground. Damien McDonnell then wrapped up the scoring for the half when pointing from play after being placed by Joey Macken.
The crowd had to wait until the thirty seventh minute for the opening score of the second half but then like buses two arrived almost at once. Firstly Joey Macken atoned for an earlier miss when fisting over before Dunshaughlin pointed from play.
Drama aplenty occurred in the forty fifth minute. Eddie Meade was dragged to the ground but in spite of somehow getting the ball over the bar the referee had already blown his whistle to award a penalty. Regular centre back but deputising today at centre back Shane Gargan strolled up field to take responsibility for the taking of the penalty before expertly driving it into the left hand corner. However the referee remained unsatisfied and requested that the penalty be retaken. Unflustered Gargan then showed his penalty taking prowess and struck the ball low and hard into the bottom right hand corner.
Soon after Macken was found by Colin Lynch from a quickly taken free kick before he too was hauled to the ground, this time by the Dunshaughlin goalkeeper who became their second black card recipient in a couple of minutes. Ingman tapped over the resulting free kick from in front of the posts which he quickly followed up with a marvellous individual point into the clubhouse goals.
Second half substitute Darragh Keogh netted with ten minutes to go following an intricate passing move before Dunshaughlin pointed another free to score their second of the half. The Seneschalstown response to this was almost instantaneous though as Brendan Lynch, one of the smallest men on the field rose highest to flick in a forty nine metre Ingman free. Ingman then wrapped up the scoring for the hour when pointing from play after excellent work from his midfield partner Robbie Waters.
