Seneschalstown 0-05 Carnaross 3-11
Seneschalstown Junior D’s opening game of the season it is fair to borrow a phrase from racing parlance. The side will come on for this outing. Throughout the sixty minutes they struggled to get to grips with the impressive Carnaross side but the team will not be too dissatisfied as they were shorn of a number of key players for this outing.
Meath B League Division 5 Round 1
Seneschalstown 0-05 Carnaross 3-11
Seneschalstown Junior D’s opening game of the season it is fair to borrow a phrase from racing parlance. The side will come on for this outing. Throughout the sixty minutes they struggled to get to grips with the impressive Carnaross side but the team will not be too dissatisfied as they were shorn of a number of key players for this outing.
By the time the final whistle was sounded eight of last year’s minor panel had seen action and with a number of these still eligible for that grade the side had a distinctly youthful look to it as some of the more experienced members of the side are being gradually eased back into action.
Carnaross opened as they meant to continue when kicking seven points in a row inside the opening twenty minutes. Mark Gleeson eventually opened the home sides account when pointing from play in the twenty second minute before young Eoin Finnegan kicked his first point in adult football when converting a free four minutes later. There was to be only one more point before half time and it fell to the side from just north of Kells when they raised an eight white flag of the half.
The opening exchanges of the second half were played to a similar pattern as the first but this time Carnaross found the back of the net twice to open up a very healthy fourteen point lead, 2-10 to 0-02. Ryan O’Dowd then pulled a point back before after a ten minute spell without a score Finnegan kicked his second of the afternoon. No sooner had he pointed though the visitors went down the field to register their third goal of the game as the fog began to once more roll in around Fr. Tully Park. There was still time for each side to register a point apiece, with O’Dowd picking off his second for Seneschalstown.
While the final score line was disappointing for Seneschalstown on Sunday afternoon this is a side of immense potential when they have a full panel to pick from and one suspects they will produce many a fine performance as the season unfolds and they will have been buoyed by the performances of players such as Ryan O’Dowd, Cormac Mullen and Eoin Finnegan. These three players shone like beacons in the fog while the game was also notable for the return to the Seneschalstown colours of Francis Sheridan who lined out at midfield.
