Meath U-17 Division 1 League Round 6

Seneschalstown 5-11 Dunshaughlin 2-11

Seneschalstown took to the field on Easter Monday morning hoping to maintain their unbeaten run in Div. 1 of the U-17 league. Cillian Gormley opened the scoring when curling over from the right-hand side of the posts. Gormley then doubled his and the team’s advantage when pulling on a rebound after the Dunshaughlin goalie made a smart safe from an Alan Mulvany goal bound shot. Dylan Keating then raised the first green flag of the day, after taking control of a long delivery he turned his man and buried the ball in the top corner of the net.

The home side were now playing some nice football and after a sweeping move up the pitch Sean Commons chipped over a point. Daire Finnegan then got in on the goal rush when following a trade mark run up the centre he gave the Dunshaughlin goalie no chance with a pile driver. Commons again was on the end of another move and notched his second score of the game. This left Seneschalstown with a 4 point lead at half time.

Dunshaughlin started the second half in promising fashion and soon found themselves level with a quick-fire goal and a point. However, the Seneschalstown lads were not going to give up their unbeaten run and Ross Mullen settled the team with a nice point. This was followed by a long-range effort from Daire Finnegan and the team were now playing some nice football. It was the turn of Alan Mulvany to get onto the score sheet when he was at the end of a move started by Sean Carey when he blasted to the net.

This was soon followed by his second effort after some nice work by Keating and a pop pass and Mulvany was there to flick the ball to the net. Sean Commons knocked over his third point of the day and again this was followed by a Mulvany point. Cillian Gormley then kicked the point of the match when close to the “ambulance” gate he chipped in with a cheeky point. Dylan Keating finished the goal rush with a long-range effort which deceived the Dunshaughlin goalie with Daire Finnegan making a nuisance of himself. Sean Commons then finished off the scoring with a 21m free.

A good all round team performance which acted as good preparation for the penultimate match with Dunboyne an epitomised by the commitment shown by both Fionn Hall and Alan Mulvany in cutting weekend holidays short to be back for the match.
