JM Food Services Football League Division 2 Round 4
Seneschalstown 0-11 Duleek/Bellewstown 2-10
The concession of a goal in either half undone Seneschalstown in this JM Food Services Football League Division 2 clash played in sunny Duleek on Saturday evening. It left Seneschalstown frustrated as they created more than enough chances to be a lot closer and perhaps even nick something on a different day.
Their start however left a lot to be desired as the home side raced into a five point lead inside the opening quarter as Seneschalstown didn’t score. During this period Duleek put a goal and two points on the scoreboard.
Seneschalstown eventually got up and running when Alan Mulvany kicked three frees from almost identical positions to the left of the goals to get Seneschalstown moving and when the same player kicked a longer range free from the right of centre after 24 minutes Seneschalstown were back in it. Before scoring Seneschalstown did create three goal opportunities but none were taken which left them in arrears.
Duleek/Bellewstown replied with a point for themselves but from the kickout John Smith and Ronan Conneely combined to set up Eoin Finnegan for the visitors first score from play. Duleek lead by two at the break after they got the last score of the half in the very last play.
The hosts also started the second half quickest pushing the lead out to four points and it was the 40th minute by the time Seneschalstown scored again when Mulvany was on target from yet another dead ball.
However, Duleek managed to evade the Seneschalstown press on the kickout and break up field for a second goal which left six between the sides entering the final quarter.
Seneschalstown’s response was decent though as Seán Davis kicked a two point effort from play upon his introduction and Mulvany split the posts from a free. However there was a big call that went against Seneschalstown with ten minutes to go when Mulvany had a two point free, which went between the posts called back for being kicked from the wrong spot which on first viewing looked very harsh. Duleek were awarded the free and when they scored again momentum swung back their way for the final few minutes and went five ahead by the time there was two minutes left on the clock.
Mulvany (free) and Dylan Keating kept plugging away for Seneschalstown and got them to within a goal but as the visitors chased a green flag in the dying embers Duleek/Bellewstown picked them off at the other end to see out the win.
